This blog has not been updated for a pretty long while because of my busy schedule. I hope to revive it as I will be embarking on a new journey in my life. After teaching for more than 4 years in HCI, I will be returning to my Alma Mater to teach. I looked through these photos taken of those earlier days in HCi with great fondness. I am indeed looking forward to my future with RI. I shall start with this blog revival with a photo post of my humble new home!

A Hero was Born 16th Nov
I was cycling along Tamah Jurong in the afternoon and it was pouring heavily. I spied three policemen and a lady gathering by a monsoon drain. I stopped and joined in the fun. Apparently, the woman saw a poodle stranded in the fast flowing water and called the police. One of the policeman was struggling to reach the poodle, trying not to get his feet wet. Meanwhile, the poor poodle was in real danger of being swept away. I told the policeman to step aside and let a trained zoologist handle it. I torn off my shoes and went in after the poodle.
Well, the current was really strong and I was nearly swept off my feet too. I couldn't feel the bottom of the drain and had to hang onto the railing with one hand. As I reached down towards the poodle it panicked and jumped into the deeper water. I lunged for it and managed to grab it by the neck. The poodle must be quite hungry, because it immediately turned its head and sank its giant fangs, (I swear it was drippling with venom) into my hand. Bearing with the pain I handed the stressed poodle (still chewing on my hand) to the policeman, who immediately dropped it back into the water. I had to reach out to the poodle a second time, to be bitten again. In desparation, I grabbed its tail and yank it out of the water and pass it to the policeman.
Safe at last, the poodle turned its attention to the policeman, trying to have a go at his hands. He slipped on some heavy duty industrial gloves (I wonder why he did not pass them to me in the first place). Meanwhile, I was nursing my mangled left hand
(Warning! Not for faint hearted due to graphic nature) which was dripping with blood. With the dog in line, the policeman was kind enough to summon an ambulance to the scene (despite my protest). When the ambulance attendants arrived, all three of them came out and had a good laugh at the situation. I had to fill in a form to release them of any reponsibility. One of them even had the same birthday as me (He seemed totally thrilled by the fact). Anyway, they clean up my wound and assured me that they are not mortal injuries.
By now, some curious onlookers had braved the rain and gathered around to check out the situation. One of the lady onlooker even suggested that since I saved the dog I should be the one to keep it. Sensing that the situation was quickly getting out of hand, I decided the make quick my getaway. The policemen thanked me for my heroic act and I left them with the poodle standing in the rain.
I cycled to the nearby clinic to get a Tetanus jab and some antibiotics. The total cost came up to S$85. While waiting for the doctor, I entertained the nurses at the counter and some patients with my dangerous encounter with a ferocious beast.
In fact, ordinary folks couldn't help but laugh at this silly incident, wondering why I bothered to save a poodle. A classical case of "狗咬吕洞宾不识好人心". I could say that at least for the ten minutes or so I was a caped crusader, a hero to the rescue (to rescue the hapless policeman I must emphasised). I took heart that my beloved son said that I was a "brave justice league" and that is the best affirmation ever. Yeah.
